who wants to know?
Artist statements are difficult, some are pretentious, most are dishonest. With this in mind mine shall be a mixture of both!
I love art , it has always been that way . I am interested in unique and intricate things, like what makes the world go ’round and the meaning of life. I love sunsets and jumping into puddles; the way sunday mornings smell and the way no two clouds look the same.
…but sometimes when the light is just right and the silence is at the correct volume, I find myself in my studio painting. I paint with anger and frustration as my muses, I use every atom of sadness, loneliness, and nostalgia I can muster up . I let the voices in my head run wild and the paint drip freely. I forget about how beautiful the full moon looks in a dark sky or the magic a babies laugh carries across any room that is lucky enough to echo it. I remind myself that my current paintings are objects and not subjects; That most people love the legend more than they love the reality behind it. I imagine that I paint like the scientists that spend all their wisdom creating new weapons that will ultimately kill thousands, even millions. ( what a bunch of crazy f*cks those scientist )
Then I use a pretty color to balance it all out. I smile and say thank you when people compliment the work as beautiful, because they are right since beauty is not on the surface, even if society has convinced us of such. If it all started with a big bang or with a god that sent his only son to be crucified, life as I know it is incredibly beautiful with traces of violence scattered across time. My paintings reflect my limited knowledge in such matters.
Pretentious and dishonest.
